Package: esound
Version: 0.2.35-2
Severity: normal

Sound files are sounding truncated. Sometimes sound only last a split
second, when it is meant to last several seconds.

This only seems to occur with under certain circumstances:

- esd
- OSS (does esd support ALSA natively? It appears not to...)
- small file, eg. I have problems with
  /usr/share/sounds/gnibbles/laughter.wav but not
  /usr/share/sounds/gnibbles/crash.wav
- random factor

The problem only occurs if all the above are true.

Initially I thought having just upgraded to kernel 2.6.9 (from 2.4.x)
might be a factor (and was going to file a bug against
kernel-image-2.6.9-1-686), but considering I cannot reproduce the
problem without esd, I am not yet convinced.

What seems to work:
- aplay
- esdplay when esd is not loaded.
- cat /usr/share/sounds/gnibbles/crash.wav > /dev/dsp
- Using "aoss esd" from alsa-oss.

After I send this bug report, I plan on booting to 2.4.x again and
retesting.

Please reassign this bug to kernel-image-2.6.9-1-686 if you think it
is a kernel bug.

Extra info:

ACPI disabled (required for Ethernet to work).
