Subject: network-manager-gnome: allow autostart in non-[GNOME|GTK] desktop
environments
Package: network-manager-gnome
Version: 0.6.6-2
Severity: normal
*** Please type your report below this line ***
Dear DDs,
On a different machine I am using lxde [1] and want to use
network-manager-gnome. Unfortunately the setting in the .desktop file
prevent it from being autostarted [2].
*Important note: Sometimes, some gnome applications has
"OnlyShowIn=GNOME" key in their *.desktop files (For example, nm-applet
of Network Manager). That key means, only load this application in
GNOME. So, that's why they won't be loaded in other desktop
environments. Actually, most of those applications can work well under
other desktops, but for no good reason they arbitrarily claim that they
are GNOME-only. Don't forget to check this key if you cannot get an
application automatically started even its desktop file is already in
the autostart directory. If that's the cause, file bug reports for that
applications to its author and packager, if it's not really
GNOME-specific. *NOTE* NetworkManager Applet works fine, just comment
out or delete "OnlyShowIn=Gnome" in your
~/.config/autostart/nm-applet.desktop . [2]
Could you please remove this line from [3] although it is called -gnome.
I guess somebody who wants to run a different network management tool
would not install network-manager-gnome in the first place.
Thanks,
Paul
