Please report this to the correct place:
The file /etc/modprobe.d/mouse contains
install psmouse /sbin/modprobe/ psmouse
and overwrites the modprobe behaviour. At my system the module psmouse
does not load anymore and there is no mouse support. The boot stops and
I have to wait a long time or press Crtl+C.
I I comment this out, everything works fine again.

This file is not installed by module-init-tools, considering that it has
a broken syntax and even when corrected would be totally meaningless I
suppose you created it yourself.
