Package: slocate
Severity: wishlist

I do think slocate should provide alternatives for the 'locate' command;
another package (findutils) offers a 'locate' symlink, and many people, myself
included would prefer to have slocate than gnu locate.

However, the two packages do NOT play nicely with each other. (I had to
force a remove of findutils, and then reinstall it, after manually removing
slocate. Something broke badly.) Rather than going all out to a Provides:
line, which, with only two packages that I know of providing the locate
command, perhaps they should both use the alternatives system.

Thank you! :)

(A bug report has also been filed on findutils, same text, but different. :)

The slocate package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/457565 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.

Kind regards,
