Subject: nictools-pci: pcnet-diag -a changes media type from HomePNA to 10baseT?

Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system
Transcript (captured with a digital camera from dandelion's monitor):
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ssh sauna
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo /usr/sbin/pcnet-diag -a
pcnet-diag.c:v2.00 4/19/200 Donald Becker ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
http://www.scyld.com/daig/index.html
Index #1: Found a AMD PCnet-Home 89c978 Homenet adapter at 0x1440.
Station MAC address is 00:30:be:01:30:a6.
The chip is started.
The transmitter is running, the receiver is running.
No interrupt sources are pending.
Using the 10baseT transceiver.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ Read from remote host sauna: Connection reset by peer
Connection from dandelion to sauna was over eth0 which uses
3c509.o. Connection to internet is over eth1 which uses pcnet32.o.
After this sauna seemed completely frozen. It did not answer to ping,
monitor was blank and typing ctrl+alt+del from keyboard had no effect.
Next I rebooted sauna only to notice that no packets seemed to reach
the internet anymore, the card really behaved as if it was using
10baseT instead of HomePNA. I rebooted the box at least twice and
every time saw the same behavior.
As a last resort I powered the machine down and now also removed the
power cord for several seconds. After powering the machine up again
everything seemed to work just fine.
So, the final question is: Shouldn't pcnet-diag -a only show
information and not change/break anything?
