Package: bmpx
Version: 0.40.14-1
Severity: important

I've just revisited bmpx after 1/2 a year or so to see how
it handles embedded track artwork.

After starting it up and waiting for the splash screen to
go away, I click on BMP -> add files to playlist (or
similar) in the menu and select the contents of a directory.

The directory contained 36 mp3 files and 36 jpgs. I
selected the lot, trusting bmpx to reject things it wasn't
happy with (or alternatively: if the dialogue doesn't
filter out file types it isn't happy with, I merrily added
them)

bmp is now spinning the CPU and the ui is unresponsive.
The following is looping (via strace):

stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=3661, ...}) = 0
write(12, "2008-05-09 16:13:38 Gtk: gtk_lis"..., 100) = 100
write(2, "\n(beep-media-player-2-bin:2201):"..., 129) = 129
write(2, "\n(beep-media-player-2-bin:2201):"..., 112) = 112
time(NULL) = 1210346018

Here are it's file descriptors:

If the mp3s or JPEGs are required for debugging, they can
be supplied (it happens to be "Ghosts I-IV" by Nine Inch
Nails, the JPEGs are extracted versions of the track art.
the album is CC licenced)

The bmpx package has been removed from Debian so we are closing
the bugs that were still opened against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/517588 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.

Kind regards,
