Package: gcvs
Version: 1.0b3-3.1
Severity: important

Trying to use gcvs with a repository created with cvs 1.11.1 gets me the
following error:
cvs update: missing hostname in CVSROOT: :ext:did...@vips/projects

Although it works pretty well using the command line.

The explanation probably is:
http://ccvs.cvshome.org/fom/cache/63.html
which says:

You are running a version of CVS prior to 1.11.1 and have forgotton to
place a colon after the hostname in your CVSROOT value

However, I didn't forget anything since the CVSROOT file was created
by CVS itself, and it works on the command line. Probably not many
people are willing to edit the CVSROOT files in their whole repository
hierarchy to fix it.

If I try:
/usr/lib/gcvs/bin/cvs --version

Concurrent Versions System (CVS) 1.11 (client/server)

which fits the problem description.

Upgrading the builtin version of CVS to at least version 1.11.1 would
probably solve the problem.

I didn't set the sid tag since this problem occurs as well when
accessing a remote repository, so it will affect stable and testing
machines as well sooner or later, everytime the remote rep has been
created using 1.11.1 or later (IMHO).

Cheers.

The gcvs package has been removed from Debian so we are closing
the bugs that were still opened against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/533610 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.

Kind regards,
