Lempel-Ziv-Markov chain algorithm has many use, along them compressing the kernel for embedded device is pretty handy It sounds like debian doesn't support this library and the associated headers. I would be glad developing programs that will use lzmalib on debain platform if such features would be put upstream.

packaged, so you can use it or if you plan to package it yourself... in any 
case, and especially the latter, please follow the procedures described at
