--- Begin Message ---Package: mc Version: 1:4.6.2~pre1-5 Severity: normal Start 'mcedit borked_mcedit.txt' (attached) in 'gnome-terminal'. The cursor is a white square over the letter 'a'. Press down arrow twice, the cursor vanishes. Keep pressing down arrow and the cursor reappears over the 'f'. In a console, (e.g. Ctrl-Alt-F2, etc.), the result is different. The cursor starts as a white underline, and changes to a light blue underline when over leading whitespace. The light blue cursor against the dark blue background is not invisible, but is distinctly less visible. More testing, summarized in a (monospace font) table: cursor is... normal color changing invisible ---------------------------------------------------- gnome-terminal X console X konsole X xterm X uxterm X xfterm4 X rxvt X Eterm X (Maybe the invisible cursor is some odd 'gnome-terminal' setting on my system, or a bug. But the color changing occurs in several terminals.) --- Begin Message ---Hey, After speaking with other guys from upstream the behaviour that the cursor changes the color is intended. What is not intended is that it vanishes on a gnome-terminal (which is indeed a bug in gnome-terminal, not in mcedit). As a hotfix for this set your export this variable. export TERM="gnome-256color" This hotfix is now also mentioned in README.Debian, I hope this satisfied everybody. Greetings Winnie
