Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.4.debian-2
Severity: normal
[Note that the currently installed VLC version is compiled from source,
the standard unstable package exhibits the same behaviour.]
I get prolonged (2-5 seconds) stretches where the audio is replaced by
faint static with low-volume clicks and pops in it, while the video stream
plays on fine. This might happen right at the beginning of the movie or
a couple of minutes. Similarily after the audio has recovered it will work
normally for some time, then switch to static ...
This happen with all files I tried (about 20-30), whether streamed from a
samba share or copied to local disk. I concede that the sample is not very
comprehensive but the same files work with the current win32 and OS X versions
of VLC, as well as totem-xine.
The attached debug log has buffer underruns and broken pipes in it, but I don't
know what should have caused these - CPU load might peak at 40% during playback
(2x Opteron 240). The machine was otherwise idle.
Thanks,
C.
