dying unexpectantly. Could it be that Debian has some older
python libraries or what? I get these strange messages at start:

What happens is that whenever I close a chat window, gajim either
works as expected, completely hangs or dies on the spot like this:

I manage to force this by opening a chat window, close it with ESC, open it
again, close, ... Gajim died after about 10 window openings.
