Should exist option to turning off receiving messages while subsctribed. 
Sometimes is convenient to browse list via (for example) Usenet or Web pages, 
and have ability to write to list.

You don't need to be subscribed to post to almost all Debian-lists.

To get around some spam-protection and delays, you can subscribe to the
pseudo-Mailinglist 'whitelist'.

So I don't see any benefit for that request and close the bug.
