package in Debian testing or unstable, even experimental yet. xdialog is
quite popular for shell-based GUIs, since it reflects the ncurses-based

Hi Klaus!
I'm sorry, but xdialog has been removed from the archive. Reasons for
that where:
1) Upstream hasn't shown any activity for quite some time, and I don't
have the time to fix upstream bugs in his code.
2) Alternatives exists (e.g. zenitiy; IIRC everything xdialog can can be
done with zenity too)
3) gtk1 and its depenend applications where removed from the archive;
and while xdialog has an experimental gtk2 version (which I even showed
you once), it doesn't work that well and has quite some bugs. Which
brings us back to argument 1) ;)
Should you not be able to migrate to one of the alternatives (beside
zenity I found gtkdialog, kdialog and gdialog in zenity), I fear the
easiest way to bring it back would be to maintain the packages yourself,
which will most likely include to be upstream of xdialog as well.
