Hi,
From testing and reading the source, it seems that the -update option
doesn't work quite intuitively.
The manpage says:

-update <seconds>
detect when image file is modified and redisplay.
Suppose that while you are displaying an image the file
that is currently displayed is over-written. display
will automatically detect that the input file has been
changed and update the displayed image accordingly.
------------------------------------------------------------
However what happens (from my reading of magick/display.c:12775-12825)
is that the <seconds> argument is ignored (but required), and changes
are detected only if given the argument -delay N with N >= 2 in
addition to the -update argument. Changes to the image seem to be
detected rather immediately, so I'm not sure if N is used for anything
either (but it must be >= 2). Also -update does not work if the image
path is a URL.
