Package: mc
Version: 3:4.7.0-1
Severity: important

After upgrading mc from version 4.7.0-pre1-3 to the currrent 4.7.0-1 there
is no more the old mcedit which was able to handle emacs key bindings. This
was an unexpected and completely undocumented change, which severely harms
years of trained muscle memory for mc users. This is absolutely annoying!

Comparing the ./edit sub directory of both versions source tree shows that
all emacs was obviously completely removed. This crime has obviously been
commited by the upstream authors. This is not the good old mcedit anymore!
Please revert this in a future release!

I have now put mc-4.7.0-pre1-3 on hold, and will stick to it until this issue
has been dealt with.

Thanks a lot in advance!
P. *8^)

Hi!

The keybindings were not removed, but standardized all over the program.

Emacs keybindings have thus been moved to a separate keymap file. If you
want to use old Emacs keybindings follow the instruction from upstream
(Ilia Maslakov):

1) Quit mc
2) Open ~/.mc/ini in any editor (not mcedit!)
3) Find keymap=
4) Change keymap=mc.keymap to keymap=mc.keymap.emacs
5) Save the file
6) Start mc
7) Enjoy

In future, a dialog for choosing keybinding presets might be considered
to be implemented.
