make-kpkg should give the possibility to change the default distribution to
whatever else than
unstable.
This could be an command line option to make-kpkg, or an entry in
/etc/kernel-pkg.conf, in the
same way as it is possible to change the default priority.

Hi,
The default distribution only matters to people uploading to
the repository; in which case there already is a mechanism for them
to specify the distribution, in fact, there are a couple of
methods. Either use the official file; in which case you have full
control, as you supply the changelog; or else do make-kpkg configure,
and then change the changelog file.
This is not a use case that is commonly enough exercised to
justify the added bloat to support a command line option.
