Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.9-2
Severity: normal

I hello,

I have two systems, one running sarge with a fr_FR.UTF-8 locale, and the other
running todays sid, but with a [EMAIL PROTECTED] locale. both have the two
locales
configures.

I am sshing from the sid box to the sarge box, and run mutt locally on the
sarge box.

When geeting email addresses from raphael (From: Rapha\353l Hertzog
<...skiped...>)
and try to reply to those, mutt only writes Rapha in the reply field, and
ignores everyhing behind the \353 character (which is probable UTF-8 for some
accented e). I don't mind having the character not displayed as utf-8, but
this is really cumbersome, and may cause lost email when one is not careful.

Oh, and i am running gnome-terminal on both sides.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Yeah, I'm closing the bug. Nonetheless, I will try to clear up a
couple things here, hope it helps.

These two have nothing to do, but fwiw I recommend that you set your
  send_charset to:

    send_charset="us-ascii:iso-8859-1:iso-8859-15:utf-8"

  Read the docs for details.

> set charset="iso-8859-1" # which charset the terminal uses

$charset is a variable that should never be set by hand; mutt is
cappable of setting it correctly at startup.

Now, this; the explanation is simple: mutt is _copying_ the whole
line, but since you're making it believe you're in latin1, it is
copying the line in (obviously) latin1. And when Mutt sends that to
your terminal, which is in UTF-8, your terminal sees it's not valid
utf-8, and truncates the line at the first invalid char.

So, to summarize, it's not mutt who truncates, but your terminal.
