with the standard installation i get an error during http access:
"you do not have privileges to access information..."
you can solve it by simply
chown -R www-data /etc/nagios
chown nagios /etc/nagios/resource.cfg
chown -R www-data /usr/lib/cgi-bin/nagios
where www-data is the User that apache is running under.
