Package:Debian Installer DVD Iso Image Disc 1
Version: 40r3
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a Linux/ Debian newbie and only just installed my first Linux system over
the weekend. To give you a little feedback, I wanted to report a problem I
found with the installer not finding my SATA drive.
Problem description: As the installer would proceed, "Drive Detection" would
not work and would not find my HDD. This then would prevent partitioning and
further installation
System:
ASUS P5KPL-VM Motherboard
Intel E2160 Proceesor
DDR2 2G-800 Kingston RAM module
ASUS VENTO TA-863 Case
Western.Digital. SATA 500G HDD
Asus Light Scribe DVD/CD drive (IDE)
Resolution:
Setting the Bios\IDE Configuration settings to "compatible" mode from the
default "Enhanced" and moving the SATA cable from SATA1 to SATA2 on the MB made
the SATA drive appear as a Secondary IDE master (after the DVD drive). The
boot order was then adjusted and the system worked and Linux installed on the
HDD.
-----
I don't know if the setting can now be reversed but I will try this over the
next few days. Also, the mouse is very unresponsive but that's because I am
running it through the USB port. I am sure that if I put the USB-> PS/2
adaptor in, the device will work fine. BTW, none of the network drivers will
work with this motherboard out of the installer., but ASUS do have a driver
package for linux to support the network card.
I hope you can add this to your problems data base.
Regards
Simon

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful
The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.
In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.
You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.
If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.
Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
