Package: sylpheed
Version: 2.5.0-1

Hi,

Sylpheed doesn't seem to let users hide the "quick search" bar once
it's shown (at least it doesn't to me). There is no close button and
clicking again in the menu entry doesn't work.

Upstream I'm afraid.

The purpose of that option is to put the focus on the Search edit, so you
can quickly type a search term or expression, not to show it. Of course if
the search bar is currently hidden it makes it appear too, because is a
prerequisite for its function. The "View" menu is where things which can
be viewed or not are usually set.

  Nice to read that.

Well, no problem, you know now :)

As explained above showing the bar is not the purpose of that option but
a side effect. Regarding the bar itself, well, you may wish to open another
wishlist bug with that suggestion of having a close button on the search
bar, I'll forward it, but cannot guarantee upstream will code it, though.
A patch implementing it surely would raise your chances ;)

Anyway, if you really need it, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to the
menu option to make it appear or disappear at will, so, honestly, I don't
think that button is really necessary.

Closing this one now, thanks for your quick feedback.
