Version: 2.16.1-2
Severity: important

        Hi,

 The linker flag "--as-needed" is borken on some arches and causes build
 failures. This is currently used to reduce shlibs deps in a lot of
 packages in GNOME (~40), and removing it would:
 - cause 40 uploads and a lot of work,
 - mean relibtoolizing for all new upstream releases.

 I've posted about this issue on debian-devel:
    <http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/07/msg01067.html>

 You can find a sample FTBFS in #319162.

 Ubuntu is tracking this issue at:
    <https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3D12822>
 this also has a test case.

 At least sparc and alpha are affected.

 Please tell me where to send this upstream.

   Bye,
