1. Description of problem:
When the user executes the lynx command 'run with external program'
[comma key] Netscape is offered as an option (see screen output below).
When that option is selected nothing happens.
2. Workaround restores function.
I placed a symlink (as root):
# ln -s /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/netscape
to point lynx's Netscape call to its modern replacement, Firefox.
After that function is restored.
And a very useful feature it is, allowing smooth integration of text and
graphical browsers. A very rich and efficient browsing experience is the
result.
One can search with text-based browser and load graphical as required from
within lynx.
Exiting from Firefox restores lynx session.
The link suggestion is a workaround until a later version is compliled
with that code changed.
It, or script to make the link, should be placed in the deb package.
Although it amy be a trivial bit of lynx-code, to change it may not be of
high enough priority to be done in the near future.
The users won't notice a difference between workaround and repair.
