I normally use C-Kermit from ftp://ftp.columbia.edu/kermit/test/tar/x.tar.gz
built with "make linux+openssl+zlib+shadow+pam" to telnet to another machine
on my home LAN using telnetd-ssl.

With kernel 2.6.37-git9 I have troubles, described at:

Thanks for the report. Looks like it is probably a kernel problem but
I'll keep an eye on the bugzilla bug in case I need to do anything.

Linux kernel 2.6.38-rc1-git1 no longer has this problem.

I was able to successfully telnet using C-Kermit as the client and telnetd-ssl as the server into both an AMD64 machine with Realtek 8169 ethernet card and a Pentium II machine with Realtek 8139 card both running Linux 2.6.38-rc1-git1.
