network-manager=0.8.1-6 work fine with dhcpcd5=5.2.8-1

dhcpcd is not a supported option for network-manager in Debian has not been
compiled with dhcpcd support enabled. That 0.8.1 worked with dhcpcd is most
likely just a coincidence.
I don't plan to change that and make dhcdpd a supported option, as
network-manager already has enough bug reports as is.
