Running grub-mkdevicemap didn't help btw.

Downgrading to 1.98+20100804-14 from Squeeze helped, i.e. it seems to be
a regression which had been introduced after 1.98+20100804-14.

I suspect a kfreebsd-only issue, user-tagging it accordingly.
