Package: wdiff
Version: 0.5-7
Like the less program, wdiff needs a -X option to suppress sending the
cursor motion program begin and end termcap strings ("ti" and "te").
Otherwise, like less, for some common terminal types wdiff will erase
the screen when the program exits. If used without a pager, erasing
the screen makes the output extremely difficult to read. :-) Even if
used with a pager, erasing the screen can again wipe out the output
(e.g., the pager is 'less -E') or might simply be undesirable (e.g.,
the user wants doesn't want to use a terminal's alternate screen).
Commonly affected terminal types include most current xterm termcap
entries (generally, "ti" makes them switch to the alternate screen and
"te" switches out and clear the screen) including xterm-debian
(doesn't clear primary screen but output only goes to alternate
screen, which is displayed only while the program is running).
Running wdiff on a small non-empty file will show the undesirable
effect on these terminals (e.g., wdiff /etc/shells /etc/shells).
Since xterm is affected and so commonly used, perhaps suppression of
the "ti" and "te" termcap strings should be the default.
