It seems that the current init script is incorrect. After running
"/etc/init.d/pootle start", no PootleServer process exists.
I suspect "--logerrors=traceback" to be the culprit. Removing it does
fix the problem, apparently.

This incorrect option is not present in the default
/etc/default/pootle file. This was cruft left in my local config file.
