Hi Joost,
sorry for the late reply.
We usually only update packages in stable for very severe problems,
and then try to keep the diff small, i.e. we tend to pick patches over
including complete new versions. That said, it is usually unlikely to
happen unless the package in stable is unusable. Could you explain the
problems a bit more?
Alternatively, could you try the 09.00.x packages from testing or
unstable? If these work better for you, I can also provide an official
backport on backports.debian.org.
(I'm closing the bug for unstable, it will be still open for squeeze.)
