Package: ghc6
Version: 6.10.1+dfsg1-13
Severity: normal
File: /usr/lib/ghc-6.10.1/bin/ghci-6.10.1
ghc 6.10 switched from readline to editline. Despite the comment in the
release notes that "This shouldn't affect its behaviour", this does in
fact cause many annoying regressions in functionality. A few examples:
- The delete key inserts control sequences rather than deleting the
character to the right of the point.
- Ctrl-W, rather than deleting the word to the left of the point,
deletes from the point back to the beginning of the line.
- Ctrl-left and Ctrl-right now insert control sequences rather than
moving by words.
If GHC offers the option of linking to readline rather than editline,
please consider making use of this option. Otherwise, please fix either
GHC or editline as appropriate so that this change lives up to the claim
of not affecting ghci's behavior.
Thanks,
Josh Triplett
