Failure to install this package prevents open office from installing! The
first statement is error in package ttf-opensymbol, followed by "E:
ttf-opensymbol: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit
status 12". The errors given for failure are about a dozen failures to write to 
cache,
beginning with /usr/share/fonts. Neither reinstall, remove, complete removal
or upgrade make any correction, some operation with this package is always
hanging and interfering with anythis synaptic does

Ancient bug filed in 2007, and it looks like not to be a bug in the
package but there was something wrong with the reporter's fonts cache,
regenerate it by running 'dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig' will solve the
problem.
