When lockward starts, even in demo mode, X crashes, leaving both X and
the console unusable. I can ssh in, but cannot subsequently startx
(in spite of having configured X to allow it to be started from ssh)
so I then have to reboot to be able to use X or the console again.
My video controller is:

Xorg.0.log.old for my last session that was crashed by this
screensaver hack just has the following error message and nothing else
that looks useful:
