Package: gnome-desktop-environment
Version: 1:2.22.2~5
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

I've been noticing this issue for several months now. However, I haven't
submitted a bug 'cause I don't know exactly what is causing it so I don't
know to which package submit it. But it is so annoying that I have decided
to submit it against the hole desktop environment.

This is what happens: Sometimes when I run a program it's window take too
long to appear on screen, meanwhile the other processes and running programs
keep working fine, with no freezes.

I have noticed that this problem occurs whenever the DNS resolver fails.
That is, when I try to run a program and it is taking too long to appear I
go to a (previously opened) terminal emulator window and run something like
"host www.debian.org" and the host utility is also freezed (trying to reach
hosts or waiting for the name to be resolved). When the names get resolved
inmediately or fail inmediately the new program's window shows inmediately
but when the name takes to long to be resolved or fail then the new
program's window is delayed.

I have tried with metacity and compiz-fusion and this happends with both.
