Package: pcscd
Version: 1.8.1-2
Severity: important

Hi Ludovic,

since the upgrade of pcscd and libpcsclite1 to 1.8.1-*, I fail to make my
Crypto Stick [0] work, where it works with 1.7.4-2.

To be noted:

* ~/.gnupg/scdaemon.conf has only commented entries.
* According to #648332, I added the attached /etc/udev/rules.d/60-gnupg.rules
* Even with 1.7.4-2, for it to work reliably straight after plugging, I had to
`killall -9 pcscd` (as user). Then gpg --sign would "do the right thing"
  each time.

Please ask for more info if you need!

Cheers,

OdyX

Does it still does NOT work if pcscd is NOT running?

Damn.

It seems I got trapped in the same hole as for the last bugreport: if I make
sure to properly reboot after the upgrade, then it works.

There is still a difference though between 1.7.4 and 1.8.1: previously I could
kill pcscd after re-plugging my CryptoStick for it to "work", now pcscd runs
as root again and is not killable anymore. Repeatedly killing (-9) scdaemon
does the trick though.

Is there a saner way for auto-plugging to work without too much hassle?

Yes.
Remove pcscd if you do not use it.
Or remove scdaemon if you want to use PC/SC instead.

You can't use both scdaemon and pcscd at the same time. You need to select one.

Closing the bug now.

Bye
