Package: oss-compat
Version: 0.0.4+nmu3
Severity: normal
Hello,
I used to load soundfonts into my SB Live sound card with sfxload but now I get a
"/dev/sequencer: No such file or directory" error message when I try.
Don't see snd-seq-oss with lsmod.
Cannot load snd-seq-oss with modprobe.
And when I install oss-compat package with aptitude, I see "FATAL: Module
snd_seq_oss not found." message.
Thanks

As Torbjörn pointed out, Debian kernels no longer provide the
snd-seq-oss module. You could file a bug against the linux-2.6 package
requesting its reintroduction, but I doubt the kernel maintainers
would add the configuration item back - Alsa is the recommended sound
stack nowadays.
Regarding the "FATAL" message, current versions of oss-compat no
longer produce it even when the snd-seq-oss module is not available.
oss-compat does still attempt to load the module, so if you rebuild a
kernel with the appropriate configuration it will be loaded.
Regards,
Stephen
