Package: iceweasel
Version: 8.0-3+b1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,
after installation of debian testing, I was surprized that iceweasel was
already able to display
flash videos in websites. However it turned out that the player is somewhat
broken. Playback is
jerky on many sites, die size of the video does not match the border on the
website and some sites
keep telling that I need to install a flash player.

The add-ons-Manager of iceweasel shows in the plugins-tab that I have a plugin
called
"Shockwave Flash 10.1 r999. Gnash 0.8.10dev, the GNU SWF Player."

So it was obviously that I possibly need to switch to the original Adobe flash
player, which I did
using the package flashplayer-mozilla from debian-multimedia.org, which works
fine - but:

Iceweasel does not find the flash player that is now installed in
/usr/lib/flashplayer-mozilla.
I was able to fix this myself by adding some symlinks:

mkdir /usr/share/iceweasel/plugins
cd /usr/share/iceweasel/plugins
ln -s /usr/lib/flashplayer-mozilla/libflashplayer.so
cd /usr/lib/iceweasel
ln -s /usr/share/iceweasel/plugins

Now iceweasel finds the plugin and can properly playback flash videos on all
websites.

I would recommend to provide an empty "plugins" directory by the iceweasel
package, so it would be much
more obviously where I need to place the libflashplayer.so. Also it might be
possible to modify the
search algorithm of iceweasel so it find the file
/usr/lib/flashplayer-mozilla/libflashplayer.so without
manually creating a symlink to it.

There is one location for plugins, that works in iceweasel, iceape,
konqueror and probably other browsers: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.

Obviously, the problem is in the flashplayer-mozilla package, but since
it comes from debian-multimedia, the debian bug tracking system is not
the right place for this bug.
Please contact the debian-multimedia maintainers, or use the flash
plugin that is available in debian non-free, and works out of the box:
