Package: samba
Version: 3.0.14a-6
Severity: important

I am trying to connect to a share I created in my home directory. I am
able to browse the list of shares just fine:

----
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ smbclient -L Samba
Password:
Anonymous login successful
Domain=[HOME] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.14a-Debian]

         Sharename       Type      Comment
         ---------       ----      -------
         print$          Disk      Printer Drivers
         shared          Disk
         IPC$            IPC       IPC Service
         ADMIN$          IPC       IPC Service (
Anonymous login successful
Domain=[HOME] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.14a-Debian]

         Server               Comment
         ---------            -------
         SAMBA                 debian server (Samba 3.0.14a-Debian)

         Workgroup            Master
         ---------            -------
         HOME
----

"shared" is the sharename I'm trying to open. Here's the section from
smb.conf:

----
[shared]
path = /home/me/Shared
guest ok = yes
read only = no
case sensitive = no
follow symlinks = no
msdfs proxy = no
wide links = no
----

Whenever I try to connect to the share, using smbclient, Konqueror, or
LinNeighborhood, it fails, saying the directory doesn't exist.

----
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ smbclient //Samba/shared
Password:
Anonymous login successful
Domain=[HOME] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.14a-Debian]
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
----

For each attempt, this is logged in /var/log/samba/log.samba:

----
[2005/10/03 01:07:30, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(615)
   '/home/me/Shared' does not exist or is not a directory, when
connecting to [shared]
----

The directory certainly *does* exist. I even have a file in it. The
directory is even chmodded 777.

I have searched all over Google, and I can find several posts by people
with this problem, but not *one* of them has a solution, or even a reply
by another person! There are some people with the same error in their
log, but the ones with solutions are problems caused by something else,
like a typo in smb.conf, or a SELinux problem. I don't even have SELinux.

This is driving me up the wall. There's no reason that I can find for
this error to happen. One post on Google even showed the Samba source
where the error is logged, but didn't come to any solution.

I know nothing else to do but post a bug here, because as far as I can
tell, it must be a bug. Since it seems to be a rather obscure problem,
I'm wondering if somehow it's a bug with the Debian build (though I know
tons of people use Samba on Debian with no problems).

Please help. I'll be glad to provide whatever information from logs or
configs I can, although I've already given all I can think of that might
help.

My apologies. I discovered that the parent directory did not give enter
permission to all users. However, it seems to me that Samba should give
a more intelligent error, at least in the log, than to say the directory
doesn't exist. I will file a bug with Samba directly.
