When displaying an YUV overlay on a powerpc machine a X error is received.
This happens both with my own program as with the testoverlay programs in the
SDL tarball. x86 works just fine.
Output of testoverlay:

So closing the bug report now. If it was never really fixed, it's
maybe an issue with the graphics card driver, opengl or other issues
which is impossible to track with all the new versions released since
then.
However, if anybody can still reproduce it please reopen the bug.
