Package: hdparm
Version: 9.32-1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

The hdparm package includes the script wiper.sh under
/usr/share/doc/hdparm/contrib/wiper.sh.gz.
I feel, as an executable it should be neither compressed
nor put under the doc directory.

Ciao,

I beg to disagree. The file is only distributed because some people may be
interested in it. Upstream says:

This script may be EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS TO YOUR DATA.

It does work for me here, but it has not yet been exhaustively tested by others.

Please back-up your data to a *different* physical drive before trying it.
And if you are at all worried, then DO NOT USE THIS SCRIPT!!
---

I don't think this should be installed as an executable without the admin
deciding to do so. Besides util-linux nowadays has a tool that seems to do
exactly the same and thus the script is not really needed.
