Hi,
xboard 4.5 no longer honours configuration settings defined by X
resources, but uses a new configuration file ~/.xboardrc instead.
Configuration options previously set by X resources can be restored by
either setting them in the configuration file, or by configuring them
manually in the GUI configuration dialogs, after which they will be
preserved.
Still, such an important but undocumented change is fairly disruptive.
Please add a simple NEWS.Debian file advising to migrate existing X
resource setups for xboard to the configuration file.
Also, the manual page and info manual still refer to the configuration
as per X resources; they should be updated accordingly.
