When changing the GTK+ theme in the "Advanced Settings"
(gnome-tweak-tool), it shows immediate effect on applications,
but no effect on the gnome-shell at all. This means, most
windows and dialogues use the chosen GTK+ theme, but everything
related to the shell looks entirely different. (This reminds me
of my first Linux desktop with some programs using Athena, some
using OpenLook, and some Motif.)

gnome-shell doesn't use the GTK theme, so this is expected.
