Package: libtool
Version: 1.5.6-2
Severity: normal

While building libjpeg6b (which uses libtool-1.5.6) with gcc-3.4, I got
this error message and the build stopped:

   ./libtool --mode=compile gcc-3.4 -D_REENTRANT -g -Wall -O3 -I/opt/include
-I. -c ./jcapimin.c
libtool: compile: unable to infer tagged configuration
libtool: compile: specify a tag with `--tag'
   make[1]: *** [jcapimin.lo] Error 1

I installed the libtool documentation, but neither the manpage nor the
info documentation explains the --tag option. This makes it rather
difficult to provide the option, as nothing about the possible values (or
the cause of the above problem) is mentioned.

The --tag option had already been documented upstream while this
discussion was happening. :) Closing, though if someone wants extra
credit it would be nice to add at least a list of supported tag names
(CC, CXX, GCJ, F77, FC, GO, RC based on the (libtool)Tags info page)
to libtool's --help output.

Thanks for your help, and sorry for the slow response.
