Package: libmagic1
Version:  4.07-2

/usr/bin/ld cannot find libmagic library. For example:

$gcc -lmagic -o try try.c
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmagic
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

The problem goes away if one creates a symbolic link /usr/lib/libmagic.so
to /usr/lib/libmagic.so.1:

$ su - root
Password:
# cd /usr/lib
# ln -s libmagic.so.1 libmagic.so
# exit
logout
$ gcc -lmagic -o try try.c
$
