I am even a bit shocked that it works (or even boots) at all … First, you have a lot of packages on hold, then, parts of your system are in versions older than the version in oldstable (e.g. coreutils) -- for others I can say that it is the "etchnhalf" release (e.g. sysv-rc) -- while "most" packages come from squeeze, expect the occasional package from wheezy more than one year ago (like libc6). APT/wheezy will not work here (but your status file says APT/squeeze is installed - but that will not work really reliable either). dpkg doesn't complain here because you have a pre-squeeze version installed which hasn't the code to complain loudly: It suffers silently as most of the rest of your system does. In short: You have created a Debian (Toy Story) Frankenstein. (Not to be confused with Mr. and Mrs. Potatohead) APT is not supposed to (nor could it) work in such a hostile environment. It is expected that you move from one Debian release to the next as everything else will lead to problems sooner or later as it not tested at all. My very strong recommendation is to start fresh with a new installation of Debian squeeze (or a Debian wheezy pre-release if you prefer). I am pretty sure you experience strange "hiccups" now and then currently which will never cease to happen if you don't start fresh. Such a system would not only be better supportable, but probably more robust, secure, stable and even faster. Every couple of years Debian publishes a new release accompanied with detailed Release Notes and Upgrade instructions, follow them and you should have a good and painfree Debian-experience in the future.
