Please don't have aide --check update the autogenerated config. At least
in my usage, the config should've changed since the last init (if it did
you get errors anyway). Perhaps more importantly, if you don't update
the config on check, I can mount /var/lib/aide from read-only media.

This can be worked around now by calling the aide wrapper with an
explicit --config parameter since the wrapper doesn't call
update-aide.conf if --config is given.
Closing the bug. If you don't agree that this is an acceptable
workaround, please feel free to re-open.
