Package: network-manager
Version: 0.8-1
Severity: normal

The file /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf has the [ifupdown] field
set to false. This causes nm-applet to think it's disconnected and, because of
that, some Gnome apps don't connect to the web. Two examples are Empathy and
Pidgin. Only after changing the value to true and restart Network Manager I was
able to use them.

Version: 0.9.4.0-9

Hi,

I don't think managed=true would be right default. That said, there were
a couple of changes which should address the issues you've encountered

1/ the debian installer in wheezy 7.0 will automatically create a proper
NM configuration if network-manager is part of the installation
2/ network-manager 0.9.4.0-9 will set the global online state to
CONNECTED if any interface in /e/n/i are marked as up. This way apps
using NM to get the on/offline state should work better in such an
environment.
3/ if network interfaces are found in /e/n/i, postinst will issue a
warning and README.Debian was extended to contain a more detailed
explanation of the situation with advice how to proceed.

I thus consider this bug successfully addressed, so closing.

Michael
