Package: mpd
Version: 0.13.1-3
Severity: normal

Per the man page, mpd --kill is the proper way to shut down mpd. When
successful, this causes the current state to be written out, and a
clean, graceful shutdown. mpd_stop from /etc/init.d/mpd is not making
use of mpd --kill, but rather (it seems; I've not chased things down,
but would be happy to) sends SIGTERM directly. This prevents, for
instance, a new mpd from resuming at the track/position from when it was
stopped. In the worst case, it can lead to database mangling as reported
in another bug.

Preferably, mpd would catch SIGTERM and interpret it as an "mpd --kill"
invocation. Until then, the package should try to call mpd --kill before
sending a SIGTERM/SIGKILL.

This bug was tagged 'moreinfo' for almost two years, without reply. It
seems to be related to a non-standard / unsupported twist of the
standard configuration. I'm thus closing the bug.
