Hardened build flags are a release goal for Wheezy.
Version 2:5.0.4+dfsg-1 fixed one buffer overflow, hardening protects from
many unknown bugs too. You should check what impact hardening has on
performance (specially on i386) but default options shouldn't cause too much
slowdown. Different hardening features can be enabled/disabled separately.
