When performing an upgrade from gallery 1.4 to 1.5 (this is the only upgrade

There are no errors in the apache error logs.
Work around that I used to get everything working:
Completely remove the gallery package from the system, including all config
files:
apt-get --purge remove gallery
and then install from scratch:
apt-get install gallery
Once new config files are created, the upload methods start working correctly
again.
