Package: icedove
Version: 3.0.6-1

Hello,

I have configured icedove to let the mails be sorted by date and threaded. Now I have recieved a replying mail. This mail has set the In-Reply-To header but not the References header.

How this mail is sorted:
This mail does open a new thread.

How this mail should be sorted:
Regarding to https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Message_Threading if the References header is not given a fallback should be made to the In-Reply-To header. So the mail should be sorted into the existing thread, shouldn't it?

If I choose "other actions" -> "show in conversation" from the displayed mail a new tab is opened and the whole thread is displayed with the problematic mail correctly included. So the wrong behaviour is only in the normal folder mail list.

Thanks,
Gert

Hello Gert,

unfortunately your answered me directly without involving the BTS. So
other people are unable to see this communication.

>From your Mail I can see that the issue you described here is not a
Icedove/Thunderbird problem.
This issues happen because your other mail contacts don't use the fields
'Message-ID' and 'In-Reply-To' correctly. Also they don't set the field
'Refrences' as you found by yourself.
Without this informations Icedove can't display the messages in the
correct ordner.

I will close this report. Please reopen if you found something more infos
that there is a reasonable doubt Icedove is doing something wrong here.
If you will so please be remainded we need some mails to readjust this
behavior.
