Package: bastille

I have spent more hours than I care to count searching for the source of a strange problem with Amanda (backup) which resulted in log entries like the following:

Subject: NewCollege AMANDA MAIL REPORT FOR November 8, 2001

These dumps were to tape NEWC0003.
The next tape Amanda expects to use is: NEWC0004.

FAILURE AND STRANGE DUMP SUMMARY:
  mybox /home lev 0 FAILED [dumper3 died]

NOTES:
driver: dumper2 pid 15831 is messed up, ignoring it.
driver: dumper2 died while dumping mybox:/home lev 0.

According to this message, Bastille's 'restrict system resources' is the cause of the problem:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg07793.html

I'm not sure if there is an easy way to resolve this problem as I'm not sure what exactly it does, but it would be good if bastille could avoid interfering with critical system services like backups.
